Elon Musk has drawn widespread attention after sharing the full version of Citizen Vigilante, a controversial film starring Armie Hammer, on X. The movie, directed by Uwe Boll, was made available for free on the platform for a limited time, allowing millions of users to watch it.

The film has generated controversy because Germany’s film classification board declined to classify it, citing concerns over its graphic violence and themes that could encourage real-world attacks. Without a classification, the movie cannot be widely distributed or advertised in Germany, although it may still be shown to verified adults under certain conditions.

Citizen Vigilante also marks one of Armie Hammer’s first major film appearances since his career was disrupted by allegations made in 2021. Prosecutors later declined to file criminal charges, and the actor has gradually returned to acting through independent film projects.

Musk’s decision to promote the film has reignited debate over free speech, online content moderation, and the role of social media platforms in distributing controversial content. Supporters described the move as a stand against censorship, while critics argued it gave wider exposure to a film already criticized for its violent and divisive subject matter.
